Becoming an Outdoor Woman? I Don’t Think So.
Gah, this is possibly one of the worst things I’ve ever heard in a while. I was just going through different outdoor things for the spring/summer/fall, and I run into this: Becoming an Outdoor Woman (BOW).
It’s one of the stupidest things I’ve read, because it comes across as very dumb. I mean, suuure, if you’re one of those women that don’t like to go out and do things in the outdoors by yourself and you’re a bit “soft,” then it’d probably be great, but not for me.
Personally, I’m really competitive. I like things that are a harder to do and I like to try and beat people while I’m at it. This BOW thing is all supportive and friendly, so there isn’t much competition to speak of. Where’s the fun in that? I mean, if I’m going to be outdoors doing any sort of event with a group of people, I want to WIN.
Also, it’s not like you couldn’t go out and do the same things on your own, without having to pay almost $150.oo per workshop. You can go out and hike with several women and not get lost, because you have a damn map. It’s not like every woman on earth is completely incompetent outside of the house.
Personally, I’ve been hiking a lot. I like to go out and walk on trails in the woods. It’s not hard. I don’t know people that think it is hard. It’s just walking, and that isn’t too hard for most folks. (Seriously.) Also, there are generally these areas where you are supposed to walk, where there isn’t anything in your way like trees or grass or such. (The only people that don’t seem to understand this whole premise are people that live and thrive in concrete jungles their entire lives.)
So, for those few women out there that have no ability or willingness to ever venture out the door and try something different, than this is probably for you. It would certainly help open your mind to other things, or at least I would hope so.
For every other person, male or female, they could probably just go out camping with some friends or family and get the same result. It would cost less, you wouldn’t have to deal with people you probably couldn’t stand, and you would be able to spend quality time with people you care about. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
