Our Pets & The Earthquakes.
Oh, and our animals are not very good at letting us know before anything happens. You usually hear about how animals seem to have a sixth sense about earthquakes before they happen, but we noticed nothing strange from anyone but one of the dogs and J.’s rat.
Dinki, our little kitten, slept through the whole thing and didn’t notice that anything had happened until she saw a toy bunny shake during one of the aftershocks, at which point she thought it was alive and going to eat her. I had to hide her from the bunny.
Ami was barking a lot late last night, but Maple was happy and contently wagging her tail through every tremor, while Ami, being a rather tall dog, has been laying down a lot more than usual today.
The only animal we have the seemed to notice anything was wrong was our black rat, Hersey. She hadn’t been able to sleep for the past day and was constantly clicking and oinking and chattering. She’s rather talkive as it is, but she was so loud this morning a couple of hours before the quake that we had to calm her down. She freaked out again when the 4.6 hit, and I had to walk her around the house for some time before she quieted down and almost fell asleep.
Our My grandmother’s bird does nothing but sit on her food dish with her head tilted to the side and listening for five to ten minutes after each one. The last one this morning caused her to start screaming and crying because my grandmother was gone when it occured.
All of our cats didn’t seem to notice a thing until the quake itself, at which time they all freaked out in their own special way. Tigger paniced and hid under the beds for several minutes before calming down. Kit’n proceeded to become a paranoid wreck after he saw Tigger acting like he did. Cecilia continued to walk up and down the hallway for hours before catching a mouse and calming down. While all the cats outside slowly woke up, climbed out of their hiding places and twitched their ears at random noises for the rest of the day.
