We’ve Been Working Outside in This Heat.
I always complain about how hot it is in the summer. That’s because I hate being the slightest bit hot and, since my normal body temperature is a tad bit lower than most, I get hot in most situations.
Tonight on the news, the weatherman said it would be in the 90’s the rest of the week. Gah! I must get the AC on soon, before I melt.
I just cannot sleep when it’s this hot. Since J. works at night and gets home just before sunrise, I go to sleep in the morning and am stuck trying to sleep through the sun and the blistering heat, since our bedroom window hardly has any breeze blowing through it–unless it’s storming out.
So, it’s been rather hot here for a good week or two. During the day, I’ve been keeping myself busy by working on the yard and trying to get J. up before work to help me with random things. We managed to get a small, 30 gallon, koi pond up and fixed over the weekend, and it looks great.
Here’s my problem, besides the heat of course: We’ve been working on my grandmother’s yard. I’ve been working on it while J.’s at work and I have done a lot to one side of the yard. She hasn’t even noticed! I asked her if she would look at some of the landscaping that I’ve done over the past week when she was out the other day, and she just glanced over and asked what I had done. Not in a nice way either, but more one of those “What did you do to my yard!” kind of ways.
I’m disappointed, but not surprised. It is, after all, my grandmother. My mother is the same way, and she hasn’t bothered to look at a damn thing I’ve bothered doing either. My uncle came out yesterday and we planted stuff in the yard and mowed and everything, and, though my grandmother was very happy that we were doing this, I don’t recall a “thank you” to anyone.
Sure, I like making the yard look nice. It’s not a problem for me since I’m out there a lot and I enjoy doing it, but what could it possibly hurt to show that you appreciate what someone is doing for you every once in a great while?
When I was a kid, she and my grandfather hated it when I tried to do anything like that, so I shouldn’t be surprised that she just ignores it now. She never seemed to think I was good enough at it, compared to her or my uncle, who is a Master Gardener.
I like what we’ve, J. and I, done recently, so I suppose that’s all that really matters.
I’ll take some pictures and link back to this post as soon as I find my camera. It’s somewhere around here…

Yeah, it’s supposed to be in the 90’s all week, with no rain.
Thankfully, we spent a couple of hours this morning getting the AC running!

I suffer from heat too. I’d much rather deal with cold than with heat.
