Blackberries!

J. and I, mostly J., picked them over the weekend. By this weekend, the whole backyard should be full of them. Seriously, we’ll probably have a good bucket full when we’re done, especially since it’s supposed to rain for a couple of days off and on.
And so you really understand how big these suckers are, check this out.

Wait, what? Your blackberries have already ripened? And they’re huge, too! Mine are still small and green. Where do you live?
Comment from Pamela on June 25, 2008 at 1:23 am.
my saliva glands gave my jaw that little quirky squeeze when I saw there. Oh, the hours I spend picking those in the pasture when I was a kid. They grew the largest thorns - and I was forever wondering if I was bleeding or if that was berry juice dribbling.

I live in southwestern Indiana. Needless to say, we’ve had a ton of flooding problems and the weather is pretty off this year. Still, the blackberries seem to like it!

Oh my, I can’t imagine paying that much for them.. We always had them when I was growing up. They died off for some time, about four years, but they’re back!! We never sold ours, though we would have bunches of them.. Instead, we froze them every year to use over the holidays.

Blackberry milkshakes? Hmm, I’ve never heard of that one, but I think I’m going to have to advise my husband to try it out!
Comment from Lady on June 25, 2008 at 12:38 pm.
I remember playing with the mulberries in the yard as a kid and they always stained my hands and feet the same color as the blackberries. Man do those torns hurt when they get stuck in your fingers!

I can only imagine how wonderful they must taste. Sadly, the closest I’m getting to a blackberry today is the 8830 smartphone that sits on my desk beside my laptop.
I think a trip to the market is in order! I’ve posted my new WW entry here:

I don’t know what we’re going to do with them actually! I don’t ever eat more than one or two, so it’s largely up to my husband. I figure he’ll give quite a bit of them to his family, since they love them so much. Besides that, he’ll probably eat the rest of them!
