Some More.. Big Rocks.
As the photos continue, I brought in another picture of Garden of the Gods. You can see the last photograph from the weekend expedition at I Think I Like Rocks.

By the way, if anyone is really paying attention, I’d like to point out that this Garden of the Gods in located in southern Illinois and not in Colorado. The Garden of the Gods in Colorado you have to pay to see and, honestly, I don’t think is half as pretty. (But, of course, I’m rather bias.) This one is free and as long as you don’t go jump off the edge, you can climb about anything–that’s stable enough to, that is. (Though you shouldn’t!)

I had no idea there was a Garden of the Gods in Illinois, I was born there and now live in Wisconsin, so close enough to go. I used to live in Colorado fro 22 years- I don’t recall having to pay for Garden of the Gods ever. Clicked on their link and the website says - Free Admission and then later “Both the Park and Visitor Center are Free and open to the public.” We used to take all our relatives from Illinois there all the time and gawk at the climbers- especially those without ropes. Great fun! I miss the mountains- but I am partial to the foliage and the lakes out here.

That’s a beautiful shot. I love big rock formations and you shot that at an interesting angle where you also see the landscape beyond.

That is one beautiful photograph! I used to visit my grandmother in southern Illinois and never knew such a gorgeous place was so close. Shucks. I live in Colorado Springs now, and the Garden of the Gods here is actually a free city park: http://www.colorado-springs-vacation.com/garden-of-the-gods.html
But… kind of a long drive if you live in the Midwest. ![]()

Several of my friends went over there last year because some other old friends of ours moved to the area. The section they went to you did have to pay, but maybe it was because the time of year they visited?

I didn’t really know about it, even though everyone in my family has been there except for my mother, until people started falling off of the formations and dying.. Strange, but they really like to mention that on the local news stations!
Still haven’t been able to find were my friends went! Is part of the Garden of the Gods over there (in Colorado) on private property? Sometimes places like that will charge an admission fee..
